EYELET MACHINES

When you talk about paper fasteners, the conversation must start with the eyelet press or as they were called back in the day, the eyelet machine. One of the first questions asked by stapler collectors is, when was the first stapler made? That is followed by, what was used to fasten documents together before the stapler was invented? The answer is, the eyelett press, and the first one was invented and marketed in 1854.

This device was popular with the legal profession and notaries as the eyelet were considered a permanent fastener and documents could not be separated easily. These machines could be found in tabletop models, table mounted models and handheld models.
